ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
If you know what you’re looking for brings together a recent body of work by Toronto-based artist Stefan Herda. Using found materials and chemicals sourced from the suburban environment, Herda creates objects that suggest geodes, minerals, and other natural geological formations. Employing intuitive and proto-scientific methodologies, Herda explores our often troubling relationship to the natural world.
Herda confidently negotiates the space between truth and fiction, fusing elements of authenticity, façade, the natural, and the manufactured together within a space that evokes the visual language of a curio cabinet or flea market. If you know what you’re looking for is a window into Stefan Herda’s fantastical world.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Stefan Herda received his BA (Hons.) from the University of Guelph in 2010. Both his videos and material investigations have been exhibited nationally, most recently in SHOW.15 at Idea Exchange (Cambridge) and YTB Gallery (Toronto).
