Y+ contemporary is pleased to present Larissa Tiggelers’ MFA thesis exhibition, to be and nearly without.

Colour is the fulcrum of Larissa Tiggelers’ abstract painting practice. She withdraws into hours of mixing colour, dislocating colour theory from the front of mind in order to embrace the unknowability of colour and enter a place of quiet contemplation. Her paintings offer the same quiet, introspective space she accesses through their making. This is articulated in the colour palette and discernible care enacted on the paintings’ surface. Colour is foregrounded through spatial ambiguity, while gestural authorship is minimized through the soft, even application of paint.
